Scrunchies are back! Actually, they never really went away. From hand-making them with care, wearing them on our wrist, to completing our up-do, scrunchies are quite possibly one of our favourite accessories. Hi, nice to meet you, we’re Messy Bun Scrunchies. You may have seen us as you’ve strolled through Maker’s Market looking through the other vendors and we’re here to tell you more!
If you’re anything like us, you love to know the story behind the local vendors you see in store – so, we thought we would tell you more about who we are. We are a locally-owned mother + daughters small business in Burlington, Ontario.
Who knew stumbling upon a “How To” Pinterest page on scrunchie making would evolve to our family affair side-hustle. Founded out of love for sewing and scrunchies, our products are handmade, and fabrics individually selected. It’s time to meet the team behind good hair and even better accessories:
From making Halloween costumes, hats and scarfs for her daughters, Donna, our wonderful mother has always been talented with the sewing machine. Our top-of-the-line sewer carefully makes all of our scrunchies from start to finish. Made with love always, Messy Buns could not run without Donna.
The middle-child, AKA the ring leader of Messy Buns, is Lauren. Lauren leads Messy Buns sales and operations. From arranging launches, to handling all things administrative, she is sure to always be rocking a messy bun.
Alyssa and Jordan like to think creating a good-looking Instagram feed is a specialized skill. From all things marketing, photography, social media, and fabrics, these two love letting their creativity shine.
Throughout our entire lives our mother, and master sewer, has encouraged us to be creative in our own unique ways. This small business side-hustle has expanded into more than just scrunchies. Now carrying claw clips, barrettes, hairbands, tote bags, and special Toronto sports swag – we can’t wait to see what’s next. Getting to work together as a family, and sharing our love with all of you, we couldn’t love our small business more.
